The Afrique Center for Statistics, Artificial Intelligence & Innovation Research (ACSAIR) has officially released Uganda Endangered Plant Species, a new handbook dedicated to raising awareness about Uganda’s endangered and threatened plant species.
The publication comes at a time when environmental pressures continue to affect forests, wetlands, landscapes and ecosystems across the country. While wildlife often receives greater public attention, plants remain among the most important foundations of human survival. They support food security, traditional medicine, cultural identity, climate resilience, livelihoods and the balance of nature.
Through this handbook, ACSAIR seeks to make information on endangered plant species more accessible, meaningful and useful to students, researchers, institutions, policymakers, conservation actors and the general public. The book presents key information on selected threatened plant species, including their identity, importance, habitats, threats and possible conservation actions.
At its heart, Uganda Endangered Plant Species is more than a publication about plants. It is a call to awareness, responsibility and renewed appreciation for Uganda’s natural heritage. As our CEO and Continental Coordinator, Mr. Daniel Bakaluba, aptly stated, “What we understand, we are more likely to value and what we value, we are more likely to preserve.”
The release of this handbook reflects ACSAIR’s wider commitment to African-led research, data, innovation, public knowledge and sustainable development. By bringing endangered plant species into public focus, ACSAIR hopes to support informed discussion, stronger conservation action and a deeper culture of environmental stewardship.
